The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints
The Thief
of 17: You'll get this quest when you talk to Tadera Andules inside of Sadri Manor. She will tell you that Golena Sadri seems to have gone a bit off the deep end, so to speak.
of 17: Talk to Golena, and she'll accuse you of trying to steal "it" without quite telling you what "it" is.
of 17: Alvan Llarys, also here in the manor, will explain that Golena was recently talking to Elbert Nermarc, the enchanter who works in Craftsmen's Hall.
of 17: You'll find Elbert upstairs. Ask him about Golena, and he'll tell you that she was working with some "strange devices", which seemed to be Dwemer in origin, and that she was talking about enchantments. But he also says that he wasn't the cause of whatever's happened to Golena.
of 17: When you go to report your findings back to Alvan, you'll find him locked outside of the manor.
of 17: It's safe to go ahead and unlock the door to see what happened. You'll find a dead High Ordinator and a trap door into the Residential Sewers, but no immediate sign of Golena.
of 17: NOTE: One way to bypass the tough lock on the door is to cast Mark while inside the mansion before visiting Nermarc, and then cast Recall after returning and talking to Alvan.
of 17: So far, this quest has been pretty easy, but just to warn you, you're headed into the sewers, and that's generally bad news for low-level characters in Tribunal. You might be able to put it on hold and get a bit of a reward out of the deal now, though.
of 17: Go through the door from the Residential Sewers to the Forgotten Sewers. There's another exit out of the Forgotten Sewers, but it may take a bit of puzzle solving to continue onto the next map.
of 17: From that second Forgotten Sewers map, proceed underwater until you reach another door back to a western section of the first map. (You could turn another crank here to dry the area out, but doing so will also block your passage back to Sadri Manor.)
of 17: As you go through one of the tunnels on the western section of the first map, you'll run into a series of traps, which may or may not be particularly fatal to you, depending on how advanced your character is.
of 17: Eventually, you will reach a four-way intersection. That means Golena isn't too far from here.
of 17: Head to the west to confront Golena, or go past some more traps in the other direction and find some nice treasure -- mainly lots of ebony weapons -- hidden away in chests. Those ebony weapons don't have any nice "pre-built" enchantments, but they're still worth lots of cash, and they can be enchanted as you see fit. This is probably one of the better concentrations of treasure in Mournhold down here.
of 17: Golena has some arrows that do a pretty good job of paralyzing you, up to 20 seconds, as well as poisoning you for even longer. She is pretty weak herself, though.
of 17: Your best bet is either to try to dodge the arrows or to use a Chameleon spell to get close to her. Then try to hurt her before she can paralyze and eventually kill you. (Cure Paralysis and Cure Poison potions would also work if you remembered to bring them, and more magicka resistance is always a good thing.) Anything with a long-term effect, which would allow you to keep hurting her even while you're paralyzed, can also help you get through.
of 17: Once you've managed to kill her, you can get a Daedric longbow, the Mace of Slurring, and a nearly full glass armor set off of her. Report back to Alvan to finish the quest, although you won't get any further reward from him. (It's not like you saved Golena or anything.) Those poisongrip arrows can also come in handy -- perhaps even more so if you feel like using a cheat to make more.
of 17: BUG NOTE: You don't have to use an actual console cheat to get a huge supply of the wondrous poisongrip arrows. You could instead do a "Take All" when you first raid Golena's body, then check the body again. You'll find 50 more poisongrip arrows! Do another "Take All" to get them, and then check the body for 50 more. (Get all you want the first time, since her body may disappear later on. Picking up several thousand and dropping most of them on the floor for later would be a good idea.)
