The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints

The Missing Hand

  • 1 of 7: Wait a day or so after completing A Show of Power, and Almalexia will give you this next quest -- to locate her "Missing Hand" named Salas Valor, and bring him peace, as she puts it.
  • 2 of 7: If you ask around town, people should eventually send you to Godsreach.  Salas Valor should be standing outside.
  • 3 of 7: In particular, look on the northeast side of the map.  Talk to him, and he'll attack you before you can get much of a word in.
  • 4 of 7: This fight's a little tough, but with your usual sorts of protective spells and stat-boosting spells, you probably should be able to take care of Salas by this point in the game.  Also note that Salas does have a bit of a Reflect effect running, but it's not 100%.
  • 5 of 7: TIP: If you're a good marksman and saved up plenty of dwarven darts from the previous quest, keep your distance from Valor and throw darts at him until he goes down.  (Also, strafe to dodge the darts that he sometimes throws.)
  • 6 of 7: Once he's dead, you can collect all of the Her Hand's armor and weapons off his body -- they're quite valuable, either to sell or to wear, if you're into heavy armor.  Just be careful not to wear a Her Hand's Helmet or Cuirass when talking to a High Ordinator, or they will attack you.  (All of the other pieces appear to be safe.)
  • 7 of 7: Report back to Almalexia, and she will offer you a choice of gifts for your service.  "Skin like iron" gives you a constant +5 bonus to your armor skills; "Protection against paralysis" gives you 20% Resist Paralysis; and "Warm, reflected glory" is worth a constant Fortify Health +10.  (BUG NOTE: If you killed Valor before you got this quest, the second reward will be "tamed lightning," but choosing it will still get you the 20% protection against paralysis instead of the constant 10-point Lightning Shield you're supposed to get.)
