Ultima IX: Ascension Hints
To Do (or Not To Do) This Section
The upper parts of the dungeon are entirely OPTIONAL.
After you have placed four statues on their pedestals and have picked up the Glyph of Humility, you can leave via the teleporter without worrying about it impacting the rest of the game.
The exit teleporter was added just before the game was released, by order of the creator Richard "Lord British" Garriott himself. He felt those sections were far too difficult for most gamers.
Basically, you will be doing the same things as in the lower section (finding 4 more statues and putting them on their pedestals, flipping switches and turning valves, etc.) but there is A LOT MORE SWIMMING involved. (It will help to have plenty of Blue Potions in your pack.)
Very little treasure can be found in the upper areas (what there is I'll list in the "Goodies" section). You may find it's not worth the effort. If you aren't sure, save your game in the Teleporter Room and give it a try.
