Ultima IX: Ascension Hints
I need help in the room with the sliding platforms!
of 12: There are many solutions to this puzzle. Depending upon the order you turn the wheels, the platforms move differently -- some up or down, others from side to side. Sometimes two platforms will move in a different direction at the same time.
of 12: Your main objective is to be able to jump from platform to platform and make it over to the exit door on the opposite side of the room.
of 12: Before you click on any of the wheels, hop down and see where all of the platforms sit in their starting positions.
of 12: Two wheels seem to do the same thing no matter what you have done first.
of 12: The top left wheel, when turned, moves a platform near you from one side to the other. Click on it and then turn around. The platform immediately across from you moved from east to west.
of 12: The other wheel cannot be reached easily. It is on top of a high platform on the west side in the middle. You will probably need to handle it after you have moved another one.
of 12: When turned, it moves the two platforms nearest to the exit door all the way over to the other side.
of 12: My solution uses only 3 of the wheel valves near the door, plus the hard-to-reach inner one. For this to work you must start from the beginning (no wheels having been moved).
of 12: If you prefer, click below to see an illustration of how I solved it, or read the next three hints.
