Uplink Hints

Overview on the two.

  • 1 of 6: Simply put, you plug all Hardware into your Gateway. All Gateways have their own maximums on four grounds -- Total CPU speed, Memory, Security Systems and Bandwidth(Modem).
  • 2 of 6: CPU speed is directly equivalent to what you can do with your Gateway. More CPU time means faster password breaking, faster decyphering/decrypting and everything else.
  • 3 of 6: Your Memory defines how much data you can store in your Gateway at any given time.
  • 4 of 6: Note that one "memory slot" in a gateway image represents a place to plug an 8Gq (GigaQuad) chip in. So if you buy 32Gq of memory you'll get four 8Gq chips, not one 32Gq.
  • 5 of 6: Your Modem limits the amount of data you can transfer in/out of your computer at any time. Also note that file transfers also take up CPU speed, so increase their processor time to speed up the transfers.
  • 6 of 6: Security systems can be very handy at some situations. Note that you need _both_ Motion Sensor and a Gateway Nuke to make them at all useful. You will need to run a software application to activate them. It won't do you much good to have a Motion Sensor if you don't know when it's ringing!
