Uru: To D'ni Hints
How does the prison door mechanism work?
of 15: If you've completed Teledahn or at least the prison area in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, you should know how the mechanism works -- it hasn't changed. If, however, you haven't completed the area or you've simply forgotten, carefully explore the prison area and it's components, taking note of what certain objects do.
of 15: The plates on the floor are pressure plates. Take notice of how they're arranged. Have you seen this arrangement before?
of 15: If you've explored Teledahn thoroughly, you may have seen a diagram of this arrangement before.
of 15: Each square has a corresponding number. From left to right, these are 4, 7, 1, 5, 3, 6, 2.
of 15: You need to apply pressure to the appropriate pressure plates. Search the prison for clues to which plates have to be activated.
of 15: Approach the prison gate and take a look inside. There are small plates on the far wall, some up, some down.
of 15: Seven small plates on the wall, seven large plates on the ground, seven numbered boxes on a diagram.
of 15: Depending on whether the small plate is up or down, you have to put the corresponding pressure plate up or down, but how do you figure out which pressure plate corresponds with which small plate on the wall? That's where the numbered diagram comes in.
of 15: The pressure plate marked "1" on the diagram (that is, the third one from the left) corresponds with the first or leftmost small plate. If the leftmost small plate is up, pressure plate 1 must be pressed down, and if the leftmost small plate is down, pressure plate 1 must be allowed to remain up. Seems counterintuitive, but that's how it works. The same holds true for all seven plates.
of 15: Simply stepping on a pressure plate, however, isn't enough to keep it down. You have to somehow keep the plate weighted down.
of 15: Fortunately, there are plenty of objects scattered around with which you can do just that. The bones and rocks nearby can be kicked into position on the plates to hold them down. It can be a bit frustrating playing soccer (or football for anybody in with the bones and rocks as they don't always go where you want, but be patient.
of 15: By default, plates 2, 4, 6, and 7 must be pressed down (the small plates on the wall are up), but if you've already passed through the prison during your first trek through Teledahn, the combination may be different. Examine the plates on the wall for the combination.
of 15: Once you're through the front gates, you can close them again by adjusting the plates on the wall so that your arrangement of pressed down pressure plates does not match the plates on the wall. You can also reopen the gates by making the two arrangements match up again.
