How do I sell something to the dignitary?
1 of 5: Approach the dignitary, and then open your Inventory.
2 of 5: Select the desired item from your inventory, and have it "in hand".
3 of 5: Click on the dignitary. He will ask if you wish to sell the item in your hand.
4 of 5: He may make an offer for it, or Ardan may decide not to sell the item. (The latter is a clue that you will probably need that item somewhere, and shouldn't sell it.)
5 of 5: If you purchase an item from the Distributor, and then later attempt to sell it back to the dignitary, you will not receive the full price that you paid for it. (This is no surprise, since the dignitary has to have his own "take" on the transaction. He surely must work for the government.) Conversely, if you sell something to the dignitary, it goes into the inventory on the Distributor. However, if you attempt to buy it back from the Distributor, you will find that it costs more than you received when you sold it.
