5. Recharge retrorockets

  • 1 of 12: Ardan will need to re-use the same retrorockets that he used on his trip to the moon, in order to provide the same "cushioning" effect for his landing on Earth.
  • 2 of 12: However, both retrorockets are now empty.
  • 3 of 12: They will each need to be recharged.
  • 4 of 12: There are several things in the game that can be used to recharge the retrorockets.  It is not necessary to use the same kind of charge in both retrorockets.  In fact, contrary to the laws of science (and, particularly, rocket science!), the game will allow you to place two greatly disproportionate charges in the two retrorockets.  So think broadly.
  • 5 of 12: Two of the possible charges come from the capsule itself.
  • 6 of 12: If you have not yet used them, the cartridges found in the cupboard aboard the capsule can be opened using the knife (also found in the same cupboard), to produce a small amount of powder that can be used in one of the retrorockets.
  • 7 of 12: Similarly, the powder barrel found in the cupboard can be opened using the wrench.  If you have not yet used that powder, it can be used to recharge one of the retrorockets.
  • 8 of 12: While both of those seem to provide a fairly meager charge (in comparison to what they need to accomplish), they will work.  However, there is something that is much more powerful -- and which can be produced (and re-produced) as often as you need it.
  • 9 of 12: If you have not yet done so, be sure to visit the laboratory on Level 5 -- and particularly the Purifier machine found there.
  • 10 of 12: One of the formulas on the panel on the left side of the machine shows an explosive that is capable of launching a space capsule.  It would seem logical that such an explosive should also be capable of slowing down the same capsule, if used as a charge to its retrorockets.
  • 11 of 12: Make some explosive using the Purifier, and use it on either (or both) of the retrorockets, to get them charged up and ready for launch.
  • 12 of 12: After the retrorockets are both recharged, be sure to re-install them in their respective slots in the floor of the capsule, just above the hatch cover.
