Voyage Hints
How does the test work?
of 13: The test is a series of logic puzzles, of the form "If A then B".
of 13: The alien will first present you with some "rules". Following that, he will ask you a series of questions based on the rules.
of 13: For example, if the "rule" was "If A happens, then B always happens", the alien might ask "What happens if B does not happen?"
of 13: The answer, of course, is that A did not happen (since, if it had, B would have happened).
of 13: The questions are all quite simple and straightforward logic questions, although the way that they are formed can make them a bit daunting for someone inexperienced with these puzzles.
of 13: You will have the opportunity to select from answers in multiple-choice format.
of 13: If you answer correctly, he will continue to another question, and another, until you have answered all of them correctly.
of 13: Any incorrect question answered incorrectly is "tabled", and when you have gone through the remaining questions, the alien will re-ask the incorrectly-answered questions, giving you another chance at a correct reply.
of 13: When the first "situation" (and its related questions) have all been answered correctly, the alien will inform Ardan that he has done well -- so far. But now a second series of questions will be asked, which will be a bit more difficult.
of 13: The difficult with the second set of questions is that, while the first set were all directly answerable, the logic of the questions in the second set will not always be.
of 13: For example, if the "rule" was "If A happens, then B always happens", the alien might ask "What happens if A does not happen?"
of 13: Since that is not defined, the correct answer is that the answer cannot be determined.
of 13: Continue answering the second set of questions, until they are all answered correctly, and the test will have succeeded.
