The scale is set to "1".
1 of 2: If the scale is set to "1", then as each alien enters the room and steps on the scale, the door at the far side will open, and that alien will immediately move down to its stable.
2 of 2: There will never be an alien left standing on the scale. This -- along with a setting of "3" -- can be considered the optimal setting.
