Barracks
A Barracks is simply the second most important building in the game. This is where you make most of your combat and non-magic units. The guys you can make depends on what other buildings you have. For instance, a Blacksmith will allow you to make Catapults/Ballistas. In the later missions, and when playing multi-player, you'll want at least 2 of these. Guard this well, and attack the enemy's as a priority.
