Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness Hints
Information
During the first few missions of the game, I'll be going into detail of what you're supposed to be doing. However, once you reach the fourth mission, then I'll assume you know what you're doing. Basically, this means:
- You should build farms when you need them
- You should know how to mine gold and harvest lumber effectively
- You should know how the game's interface works
- You should know how to find Oil Patches and Gold Mines without my specific saying so.
- You should scout the area, with either a Flying Machine, or on foot, if one is not available.
If I'm insulting your intelligence by telling you that, I'm sorry. But any strategy game can be tough to play if it's your first, and this file should help those people who've never played the original Warcraft (or a real-time strategy game altogther).
On another note, the Scenario sections are for people that are stuck on specific levels, and need some help. If you simply want some hints, read all the strategies, and come to the walkthroughs when you get to a tough mission you can't beat.
You should also know that I always play with Fog of War off, and this reflects how the file is written. Why? Because I'm used to it. Most other real-time games I've played (Dune 2, Command and Conquer, the original Warcraft) don't have that sort of feature, and it usually just makes it more difficult. If you want more of a challenge, pick this option, but beware of it if your not an expert.
Also, when I refer to certain units, I mean their enemy equivalent, too. What do I mean by that? When I say Footman, I also mean Grunt. When I say Archer, I also mean Axethrower. If I say Zeppelin, I also mean Flying Machine. Get it? Good. This is because most units have the same (or almost the same) characteristics on both sides. Basically, they mirror each other like chess sets, with the exception of magic, and small upgrading differences between Berserkers and Rangers.
For the technically challenged, here's some definitions:
- Units are any of the guys that you control (or your enemy controls). Grunts, Footmen, Archers, everything controllable are units.
- Structures are the various different buildings within the game. Farms, Barracks, Lumber Mills, etc, are strcutures.
- When I refer to the enemy, I mean any of the competing players, either computer controlled or human controlled via modem, network or direct link.
I hope you find this file useful in beating this game, which PC Gamer awarded "The Best Game of 1995" award, as well as "Best Multiplayer", and giving it the ultra-high rating of 96%. Have fun! :-)
