Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness Hints

Mission 6: The Badlands

  • Mission Objectives:

    - Escort Cho'gall to the Circle of Power at Grim Batol

To sum it up, you start in the upper-left hand corner, and where you're going is in the lower-right.  I found the best way was to head directly south of the starting point and follow the shore.  Assemble a group of 7 Grunt and 2 Trolls.  Have a Catapult as well.  Send a Catapult ahead a bit.  Have it move a handful of spaces, then send your troop next to it.  Send your Catapult a bit further, move your guys, etc.  The enemies will see the Catapult first, and usually attack it.  This will keep your guys healthier than normal, and they won't get hit by the catapult's fire.  While doing this, send your squad to demolish them.  When you seem to be getting low on guys in the squad, send down some new ones (and a new catapult or two ... they will get damaged/destroyed) to the troops.  Make sure to have mostly Grunts as well.  Keep following this method until you reach the town.

Then, send Cho'gall and those few guys that should still be there into the town.  Now, there are a few points of interest along the way ... watch for a Ballista firing behind trees.  Move your guys out of the way, and have your Catapult attack it.  You may need to bring in a second Catapult if the first is destroyed.  Have your Axethrowers take out the Archers behind the wall in the meantime.  Don't break down the wall though -- you don't need to go through it.  A bit further down, you find some ships (2 to be precise).  Keep your guys out of range, and destroy the ship with your Catapult (out of range of enemy fire).

Finally, right before you enter Grim Batol, there is a large troop of Footmen and a couple Archers.  MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE AS MANY GRUNTS AS YOU CAN AT THIS POINT!  Have the Grunts take care of the Footmen, and the Catapult try for the Archers.  If all works at well (and if you followed these instructions right, itshould), the town is yours, and the mission is in your grasp.
