Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness Hints

Attacking units in the air

  • Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you're playing a later level with Dragons or such), there aren't many air units in Warcraft 2.  Two of them don't attack so you won't have to worry about them (yet).  The others are Gryphon Riders and Dragons.  A very good rule here is to make TONS of Guard Towers by your base.  When attacking something and they sic a Dragon on your, make sure you brought some Archers or Axethrowers along to take care of them.  Most importantly, line your guys up right!  Have all of your Elves/Trolls stand in a line, and attack.  Don't clump them together!

Also, if you happen to attack enemy ships with a Submarine, the bad guys will usually bring over a Zeppelin, so then the enemy can see and proceed to smash your Sub to bits.  In this case, it's wise to have a Destroyer around, so you get at least TRY to get rid of those pesky things.  Or, simply bring lots of Subs.  And make sure you use a Destroyer, Juggernauts or Battleships can't fire into the air.

When attacking with air units, never send them one at a time.  Have them in numbers.  For the reason of balancing everything out, the air units were made to be not that strong, so never overestimate their strength.

Take out all units that can attack you first, like Archers and Guard Towers.  Juggernauts can fall easy pray to Gryphon Riders, but take out any Destroyers nearby before you do.
