Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness Hints
Getting started
It's rather unfortunate that the Warcraft 2 manual has such a small section on Multi-player games. This will help you.
Now, I have never played the game over a network. I cannot suggest any tips for helping to connect in those sort of games. All of the following information is for modem-play only!
First off, you need a modem of at least 2400 baud (although you will notice a very slight increase in speed if you use a 9600 or higher modem). They'll talk about finding an Init string for your modem. Try usuing the string ATZ first. If that doesn't work, try AT&F. There's always ATQ0V1E1S0=0. If all else fails, try to look at your modem manual. This is not really helpful, because (A) many people don't have manuals for their modems and (B) the jargon in those books are so darn complicated that you probably won't understand a word of it. The best I can tell you is try to e-mail Blizzard to see if they have an INIT string for your modem, or get a computer guru to check up on it. You can also try to see any other person who has the same type of modem, and ask for an INIT string. Please, do not e-mail either one of us asking for INIT string, as we won't have an answer for you.
Now, everything else is explained in the manual. If it fails to connect right (like it keeps hissing, instead of connecting), try again. Now, the person who called will choose all of the options: the receiving person won't really do anything. Basically, the receiver looks over the options, and if they're OK, they check the box next to their name. Then, the game can be started.
If you plan an allying, be sure to put the other "slots" below your name to "Computer" otherwise there will be no bad guys to kill!
