Combat Tips
of 5: Combat in The Witcher is actually fairly simple, and is explained to you fairly well in the Prologue.
of 5: Basically, when fighting with your swords, you always want to try to chain combos together by clicking when the icon becomes a flaming sword. This will greatly boost your damage, and give the enemy less time to attack.
of 5: Be sure you make a note of which monsters are vulnerable to which sword. Trying to take down monsters with the steel sword can be a very trying task, and the silver sword is almost useless against humans. Also, there are some enemies who cannot be hit with the Strong style. Fortunately, they tend to have very little life, and go down fairly quickly with the Fast or Group styles.
of 5: Once you get to level four in a given combat style, you will unlock a special attack. These attacks will drain most of your endurance, but are extremely powerful and basically guaranteed to cause a negative effect on your enemies. They are pretty useful when you're fighting an enemy with very high life. The strong steel one is particularly useful as it causes stun, allowing for a one-hit kill. Still, you're generally better off going for the final hit in a combo (unlocked once you get the 5th level of the combat technique) as it will do ridiculous amounts of damage.
of 5: As far as using Signs in combat, Aard is great against smaller opponents, as it will almost always knock them down or stun them, allowing for a one-hit kill. Igni is probably the most useful once you get it to high levels, as incineration deals a lot of damage to certain enemies, particularly some bosses. The others are not quite as good -- Yrden and Axii are basically useless, and Quen, while useful at times, is not quite as good as Aard or Igni in a fight. Offense is your best defense in most cases.
