The Witcher Hints
General Tips
1 of 4: First of all, conserve your money as much as possible in the early chapters. Money isn't much of an issue later in the game, but if you do not manage your funds carefully in Chapters 1 and 2 you are likely to find yourself unable to buy nice new weapons and armor. You can make lots of money by taking only cash rewards when you have an option, playing all available people at Dice Poker, and looking around carefully for any books you need stashed in houses so you won't have to buy them. Also try to hold on to any books or valuable items you find, as you can sell them for a fair amount of money to merchants.
2 of 4: It is almost always worth it to explore the map very thoroughly. You're likely to uncover hidden quests, and valuable items, even just by going into nondescript houses in villages. Exploring carefully can also lead to finding special unique monsters that can make you lots of money.
3 of 4: Try to explore areas at different times of day. Some characters/monsters will only show up at very specific times of day.
4 of 4: As far as difficulty settings go, I wouldn't advise playing on the hardest difficulty on your first playthrough -- it makes combat in general a lot harder and can get pretty frustrating if you're not already used to the game.
