The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Hints

How can I know what order to extinguish the runes in?

  • 1 of 13: In each seal chamber is a clue on a small podium.
  • 2 of 13: Move up to the podium and click to examine it.
  • 3 of 13: The clue will always be in the form of an ordinal encrypted rune combination, such as "first encrypted rune combination," "second encrypted rune combination," etc.
  • 4 of 13: To help you translate the clues into rune symbols, you'll need the four "The Runes of Power" books.
  • 5 of 13: You can buy them from Felicia Cori or Bras of Ban Ard.
  • 6 of 13: TIP: To save money, quicksave before buying the books, write down the information in them, then quickrestore. Or check the list below.
  • 7 of 13: Look through the three lines of text on an encrypted rune combination to see what all from the above list is mentioned.
  • 8 of 13: Keep in mind that there are four runes in each seal chamber, so the three lines of text will have to yield a list of four runes.
  • 9 of 13: See below to learn how to turn each rune combination's text into a rune list.
  • 10 of 13: Once you have the four-rune list for the seal chamber you're in, use the four rune books (or the rune description list above) to translate it into runic symbols.
  • 11 of 13: Then go around the seal chamber and extinguish the runes in that order. (TIP: Before you start, quicksave and then quickrestore while in the chamber. That may make the runes more easily visible.)
  • 12 of 13: There are actually only four runes used in all of the encrypted rune combinations: animal, sky, death, and time. Once you get used to how they look, you can figure out which order to extinguish runes in for each combination easily.
  • 13 of 13: To make it a little clearer, the animal rune looks like a 5 (or the letter S), the sky rune looks like a kite (or a diamond with a line down its center), the death rune looks like a 7 with two extra little lines inside it, and the time rune looks like a 4.
