The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Hints
How can I cock the ballista?
1 of 7: Sheathe your sword and go over to the ballista so you can click to start the cocking sequence. (Note that you'll probably want to quicksave first.)
2 of 7: This is one of the game's many tedious, annoying QTE (quick time event) things.
3 of 7: As soon as the picture of a computer mouse comes up, click the left mouse button as rapidly as you can to get the progress bar that's to the right of the mouse picture to fill in quickly.
4 of 7: If you don't fill it up quickly enough, you'll fail the QTE and have to fight several more knights before you can try it again.
5 of 7: That's why I advised you to quicksave earlier. Quickrestore if you fail the QTE and don't want to do a combat before trying again.
6 of 7: Note that you can go to the Gameplay menu under the Options menu and click on the "Difficult QTEs" option to remove the checkmark. That theoretically makes the game's QTE sequences easier, though you may not notice much of a difference.
7 of 7: Also note that you can purposely fail one or more cockings of the ballista in order to get more combat XP and loot, but that's probably not worth the trouble.
