Wizardry 8 Hints

What is the combination for the door in Lower Marten's Bluff?

  • 1 of 6: First off, entering this room will almost certainly ruin your faction rating with the T'rang, and is not at all necessary. However, the room does contain one unique weapon. If you wish to get inside, you will need the combination.
  • 2 of 6: Examine the code-lock on this door. You'll notice there are three tumblers, each of which can be set to a one-digit number. The combination is a series of three digits.
  • 3 of 6: The T'rang know the code, but they won't tell it to you. Luckily, they're forgetful enough to have written it down somewhere.
  • 4 of 6: Some T'rang will drop a slip of paper with a number and a couple of dashes on it when they are killed. Collecting enough of these papers will allow you to piece together the code.
  • 5 of 6: The code is 7-4-1. Use the tumblers on the door to enter this combination. Note that as soon as you enter the door, you will be attacked. If you want to steal the item in this room without making the T'rang hostile, read the next hint, but be warned: it's a cheat.
  • 6 of 6: You can probably kill the two guards outside this door without completely ruining your faction rating with the T'rang. If this doesn't work, try luring some enemies toward the guards. They will leave their posts to join the battle, and you can sneak through the door after they are out of sight.

The cheat comes in when you enter the room. Open the door. You should see a staff in the center of this room. If you walk up and grab the staff, all of the T'rang will immediately attack. Instead, click the sword icon at the bottom of the screen to enter combat mode. Choose "Run", then run up, grab the staff, and retreat back through the door. It may help to cast the Chameleon spell before attempting this trick.
