Wizardry 8 Hints

How do I operate the mine carts?

  • 1 of 9: These mine carts have fallen into disuse. Before you can use them, you'll need to remove the brakes.
  • 2 of 9: The brakes are simply two wooden beams holding each cart in place. Click on each one to remove it. Now you just have to figure out how to align the tracks inside the tunnel.
  • 3 of 9: Did you notice the control panel on the wall? This panel shows a diagram representing the different sections of track within the tunnels. Clicking on a section will alter the direction in which the track runs.
  • 4 of 9: You can experiment with the control panel, then use the lever on the carts and see where you end up. There are four possible destinations, but all except one will just return you to the Mine Tunnels area. The other leads to Marten's Bluff. It's possible to figure out the right track configuration through trial-and-error, but there's an easier way.
  • 5 of 9: Since the tracks eventually lead to Marten's Bluff, home of the T'rang, it's likely that any T'rang in the area would know the correct configuration.
  • 6 of 9: Return to the laboratory of Tantris T'rang, beside the boulder trap. You can question him about the mine carts, but he won't give you any clues. Somewhere in this room, however, is a diagram of the tracks.
  • 7 of 9: Inspect the set of four red lights in this room. Click on them until each turns blue. (Beware the trap here.) Then inspect the room again.
  • 8 of 9: Switching the lights to blue will cause a panel to open on the console behind Tantris. On this panel is a map of the mine tunnels, detailing the configuration of tracks which will lead to Marten's Bluff. Use this diagram to correctly align the tracks on the control panel in the mine cart house.
  • 9 of 9: The proper configuration should look like this:

    _  _  _
    (|)(_)(_)
    (-)(|)(_)
    (_)(|)(_)

Match the above configuration with the control panel in the mine cart house to correctly align the tracks, then use the lever on the carts to enter the tunnel to Marten's Bluff.
