Wizardry 8 Hints
Arnika Road is way too hard! I give up!
1 of 6: The road to Arnika is possibly the most difficult area of the game. Having just emerged from the Monastery, your party will be relatively weak, with few spells and weapons available to them. The enemies on the road, on the other hand, can be quite powerful. At this stage of the game, many players become frustrated. A few tips for surviving the trip to Arnika are listed below.
2 of 6: 1. Don't rest unless it's absolutely necessary. Monsters constantly respawn while you travel on Dominus, and the more time you spend in one area, the more monsters will be spawned. Stocking up on healing potions before leaving the Monastery will allow you to conserve spell points and hit points, which means you'll need to rest less often, therefore reducing the number of encounters. If you need to rest, do it behind the house, as there is very little chance of being awakened by enemies there.
3 of 6: 2. Stay off of the main road. The road is lined on either side with steep cliffs. Sticking close to the cliffs will prevent your party from being surrounded in combat, and may allow you to sneak past some enemies as well.
4 of 6: 3. Hide. Often the enemies will pass by without noticing your party. Crowd everyone into a crevice or behind rocks until the enemy has passed out of the line of sight, then make a dash for it.
5 of 6: 4. Get to Arnika as quickly as possible. There will be plenty of time to come back and explore this area more thoroughly after your party has visited Arnika and outfitted themselves with some decent weapons and armor. The quickest route to Arnika is to follow the road due west, then due south.
6 of 6: 5. Finally, don't be afraid to run! Often this is your only option when encountering a tough group of enemies. You can choose either to run to a more secure fighting position, such as a crevice in the rock walls, or just bolt outright. In general, the monsters will pursue your party until they are out of range for 3 rounds, and then retreat. It's possible to run all the way to Arnika with a parade of enemies behind you, without getting into a single fight, and this is often the safest option.
