Wizardry 8 Hints
What do I do with these runes?
1 of 9: Try clicking on them.
2 of 9: You'll notice that the runes seem to light up after you click on them. There are six runes in each area, but you may have to do some searching to find all of them.
3 of 9: After clicking on all of the runes, you'll be astonished to notice that absolutely nothing happens. You need to find a receptacle of some sort nearby, and the proper item to use in it.
4 of 9: Try inspecting the features of the surrounding terrain. You'll recognize the receptacle when you see the cursor change to a hand. Clicking on it will yield the familiar message, "A specific item is required here."
For the location of each receptacle, click the appropriate link below:
5 of 9: Now you just need to figure out what item to use at each location. You won't find many clues in the game. In each case, you're looking for a very mundane item. Most likely you had one of each at the very beginning of the game as part of a character's starting equipment.
6 of 9: Why don't you take a nap? Maybe the answer will come to you...
7 of 9: Take a look at the screen which pops up while your party rests. Notice the four items arranged around the campfire?
8 of 9: The items you see are a dagger, a long sword, a short staff, and a bundle of arrows. All but the arrows are used for the rune puzzle. You need the exact item described; i.e., a poison dagger will not substitute for a plain old dagger.
Note: to use the item, you must remove the item from your inventory, then click it on the receptacle.
9 of 9: After lighting up all six runes and using the correct item in the proper place, you will finally be able to enter the Dungeon. The entrance is represented by a small ring of mushrooms on the ground, which will appear near the place where you used the item. Good luck down there! Getting in seems hard enough, but getting back out may prove an even bigger challenge.
