Over the river
Kill the first with the Spencer Repeating Rifle before crossing the river. Then use the Sick-Gas Canister Mortar into the shack. Kill the thug at the door first with your Rifle. Then go in, and kill the last thug with the Rapid-Fire Machine Pistol. Done right, you will take no damage.
