How do I win Alpine's Quandary?

  • 1 of 9: Have you tried every possible combination?
  • 2 of 9: You don't need to...  It's not mathematically possible to win using the numbers you were given.
  • 3 of 9: Since the game is unfair, you need to find a way to change the rules.
  • 4 of 9: Too bad you don't have slightly different numbers to work with.
  • 5 of 9: Maybe you can improvise.
  • 6 of 9: Have you noticed the fly flying around the room?  It sure is annoying.  Is there any way to get rid of it?
  • 7 of 9: Hit the fly with the 4 card.  In addition to getting rid of the fly, you'll also have a fifth black dot on the card, and a way to win the game!
  • 8 of 9: Now you just need an equation that works.  This is pretty easy to figure out, but look at the next hint if you're really stuck.
  • 9 of 9: Slide the 5 card in the first slot, the 1 card in the second slot, the 2 card in the third slot, and the 3 card in the fourth slot.  (You can reverse the 2 and 3 if you like -- the equation still works.)
