Zork III: The Dungeon Master Hints
So what is this final test that I'm supposed to pass?
1 of 21: Take a look through your inventory. Something has changed.
2 of 21: You can now read the text of the old book.
3 of 21: Well, the area described in the book is similar to the area that you're in now.
4 of 21: At least the parapet is familiar. But there is only one room here and there are eight in the book. And the room is not quite in the right place here.
5 of 21: Did you look at the dial in front of the parapet?
6 of 21: There are eight numbers on that dial.
7 of 21: The number of rooms in the book is the same as the number of settings on the dial.
8 of 21: The dial lets you select which prison cell you can access from the hallway.
9 of 21: When you press the button, whatever room you select on the dial will be transported to the hallway, and the old prison cell goes back to the parapet.
10 of 21: Your first task is to find the prison cell that has the treasure in it.
11 of 21: Trial and error will tell you which one.
12 of 21: You want cell number 4.
13 of 21: Now you should see the bronze door in the cell. All you need to do at this point is get through the door.
14 of 21: You have the tools to open it in your inventory.
15 of 21: Use the strange key in the lock. The key should finally fit.
16 of 21: The only problem is that the cell is not in its proper location around the parapet at the moment.
17 of 21: You want to move the cell back.
18 of 21: Or you can ask the master to help you here. Remember that he will do what you tell him to do.
19 of 21: You want to make sure that some other cell is in the hallway. It really doesn't matter which one.
20 of 21: Tell the master what he needs to do to move the cell.
21 of 21: For example, try typing MASTER, GO TO THE PAPAPET. TURN THE DIAL TO 5. PRESS THE BUTTON. Once you do that, the bronze door will finally lead somewhere. You can open the door now, and then you'll win the game when you walk into the treasury behind that door.
