Getting Support

If you have questions about the UHS, they are probably answered on our Frequently Asked Questions page. Or, if you want to know how to purchase a copy of your UHS Reader, see our Ordering section.

If the FAQ doesn't help you, keep reading to find out how to contact us. For the fastest response, please choose the contact method that's most appropriate for your question. Also please be as specific as possible, so that we can know how to help you. This is especially important if you are reporting errors of any kind -- tell us the exact steps that led to the error and the full text of the error message you received.

For questions about e-mail you received from us...

If you have subscribed to our web site's e-mail newsletter (sent about once every two weeks) you may click here to unsubscribe your current address and/or to add a new address. If you have purchased a UHS Reader, you may click here to change your e-mail address and either start or stop notifications of new UHS Readers (sent only a few times a year). Unsubscription instructions are also contained in any newsletters or updates we send you.

If those forms don't help you, or you have any questions about e-mail you have received from us, please write to abuse@uhs-hints.com but only for questions about e-mail you have received from us. ("abuse@" is the industry-standard address for questions about commercial e-mail. All of our messages are opt-in only, and we don't sell your addresses to anyone. See our privacy policy for more details.)

Please make sure to include the entire message that you received if you have any questions or complaints about e-mail that appears to be from uhs-hints.com. Some of the e-mail-borne viruses and worms include fake, randomly chosen "From:" addresses to hide their true origin -- we need the complete message including headers to track where the message really came from.

For questions about a specific game or hint file...

Please e-mail the author of the corresponding hint file directly, and make sure to tell them which game you're playing when asking your question. You can find an author's e-mail address by looking in the hints for a section titled "About this UHS file", "Credits", or "General information". If you're using a UHS Reader, also try looking for a "File Information" option inside the program. (It's under the "File" menu of the UHS Reader for Windows.)

Most UHS authors do not receive mail sent to our general support addresses, so if you send your question there, all we can usually do is forward your message to the author by hand, delaying any specific answer to your question.

If we do not have hints for a game already, we will not be able to answer specific questions for help with that game or tell you of any other site that has hints. We are, however, happy to take suggestions that we add hints for a game if you e-mail us here. We cannot guarantee that we will add hints for any particular game, but we do listen to the requests that we get.

If you've lost or haven't received the registration code for your UHS Reader...

Please use our registration code lookup form. You may use this form either to replace a code that you've lost, or to have a code re-sent to you if you didn't receive it the first time. (Codes are sometimes lost due to mail filter settings, so if you didn't receive your code immediately after placing your order, please check your filters and then use this form.)

Once you have a copy of your registration code, you may also need to download another copy of the UHS Reader itself. Follow all of the instructions for downloading first, and once you have downloaded and installed your UHS Reader, you can then enter your registration code.

Past versions of the UHS Reader are made available only to registered users of those versions. If you have purchased an earlier version and do not wish to upgrade, you may either fill out our replacement form to receive an automatic e-mail with download instructions for the older version, or else e-mail us with your request.

If your e-mail address has changed...

If you have purchased a copy of your UHS Reader, please use our customer update form to give us your new address. This will change both the record we have for your registration code and your newsletter subscription (if any).

If you have not bought anything from us, and instead have just subscribed to our free weekly (or so) newsletter, please visit our newsletter subscription page. We don't have a "change" choice, but just unsubscribe your old address, and subscribe again under your new address.

For technical questions about a specific game...

If you are having technical questions about installing or running a game -- for example, your game won't start, crashes, or has graphics or sound problems -- please contact the publisher of the game directly. Although some of our files may contain information about well-known bugs within certain games, the UHS is not associated with any game publisher, and none of our authors can provide technical support for any specific game title.

If you want to call us to ask a question...

The overwhelming majority of the questions we receive are for help with specific games -- often for games we don't even have hint files for. It isn't practical for us to offer personalized hints for games by phone, so we therefore ask that you ask all questions first by e-mail.

If you are having problems with the UHS Reader software first, please e-mail us. If we can't answer your question by e-mail, we would be happy to call you or give you instructions on how and when to call us.

We do offer a toll-free number for purchasing the UHS Reader only.
