Arcania: Gothic 4 Hints

Other Tips

  • 1 of 6: Go to the Video section of the Options menu and change the Performance setting to Low. Even after doing that, the game always ran like a bloated pig on my computer, even though it has an AMD Phenom II quad-core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and an ATI HD 3200 graphics card. It didn't run any better than Gothic III's expansion game does on the same computer, which is really saying something!
  • 2 of 6: While still in the Video section, slide the Gamma slider most or all of the way to the right so you'll be able to see what's going on. Otherwise, the game will probably be way too dark to play.
  • 3 of 6: As in Gothic III, the three basic types of character you can build are warrior, hunter, and mage. In this game, the warrior skills are Mettle, Discipline, and Vigour; the hunter skills are Precision and Stealth; and the mage skills are Zeal, Serenity, and Dominance.
  • 4 of 6: Also as in Gothic III, it's unwise to put all your level-up skill points exclusively into one character type's skills. That might work for a pure warrior character, but hunters and mages should value the Vigour skill in addition to their own skills due to the health boost it gives. Also, mages should focus on one magic skill (Zeal is recommended) and put the rest of their skill points into Vigour and Precision (which basically makes them into mage/hunters).
  • 5 of 6: To maximize your XP and loot, you should always explore a region as thoroughly as you can for combat and treasure before doing its quests. While doing its quests, remember to always loot enemies you kill and search for stuff in any quest area you couldn't get to earlier. These hints won't constantly remind you of this or give detailed loot lists, so always keep it in mind.
  • 6 of 6: Another way to maximize XP is to work on all the alternate paths of a quest as far as you can without completing any of them, and only then pick one and finish it. There are several main quests that give you choices as to who to side with, how to get into a certain place, etc.
