Arx Fatalis Hints
Character Creation and Skills
In Arx Fatalis, you control a single character, and you will rely on his skills to deal with all the challenges in the game. Unlike in many other RPGs, your character in Arx is not limited in his abilities by a chosen class or profession; he is free to study any or all of the skills he finds useful. However, your character is limited by the number of points he can spend on those skills. For this reason you will find it necessary to have him specialize in certain areas, perhaps favoring magic over melee or stealth at the expense of strength. While the possible combinations are endless, there are three main skills which will strongly influence the way you approach the game. These are Stealth, Casting, and Close Combat, and depending on which of these three skills you choose to concentrate most, your character falls into one of three general "classes". In the following sections, you will find information on the various advantages and disadvantages of each of these styles of play, and some advice on developing an effective character of each type.
No matter which type of character you choose to create, it is important to plan ahead. Skill points are few and far between in Arx, and by selecting which skills to develop early in the game and advancing those skills, you will build a more effective character.
