Security Device Tips

  • 1 of 11: There are three basic types of security device: cameras, bots, and turrets.
  • 2 of 11: Security cameras are fixed in one place, usually on a wall, and slowly scan back and forth for hostiles.
  • 3 of 11: If they see you and you don't duck behind cover quickly enough, they'll sound an alarm.
  • 4 of 11: Until the alarm times out, security bots will appear and attack you, chasing you if you try to run to other areas.
  • 5 of 11: After an alarm ends, the bots will leave, and the camera will resume its normal scanning routine.
  • 6 of 11: It's usually fairly easy to shoot out a camera before it can see you and sound the alarm, but there are two much more useful things you can do with cameras.
  • 7 of 11: One thing is to sneak or run up to the camera, then hack it before it can sound an alarm. (See the Hacking Tips.) A hacked camera will ignore you and summon bots to attack any splicers it sees.
  • 8 of 11: The other thing is to let the camera see you and sound the alarm, then quickly disable the bots that appear with the Electro Bolt or Winter Blast plasmids so you can hack them and make them work for you.
  • 9 of 11: Turrets are also very useful things to hack, especially in areas with many enemies.
  • 10 of 11: As with security bots, you'll always need to disable a turret with Electro Bolt or Winter Blast before approaching and hacking it.
  • 11 of 11: One difference between turrets and bots that you hack is that the bots usually won't attack an enemy on sight, but will wait until you damage the enemy or he damages you. Turrets, on the other hand, will fire on enemies as soon as they see them, even if you're not right nearby.
