Bioshock 2 Hints

Security Device Tips

  • 1 of 10: There are three basic types of security device: cameras, bots, and turrets.
  • 2 of 10: Security cameras are fixed in one place, usually on a wall, and slowly scan back and forth for hostiles. If they see you and you don't duck behind cover quickly enough, they'll sound an alarm.
  • 3 of 10: Until the alarm times out, security bots will appear and attack you, chasing you if you try to run to other areas. After an alarm ends, the bots will leave, and the camera will resume its normal scanning routine.
  • 4 of 10: It's usually fairly easy to shoot out a camera before it can see you and sound the alarm, but there are two much more useful things you can do with cameras.
  • 5 of 10: One thing is to hack the camera, either with a hack dart or by running up to it. (See the Hacking Tips.) A hacked camera will ignore you and summon bots to attack any splicers it sees.
  • 6 of 10: The other thing is to let the camera see you and sound the alarm, then quickly disable the bots that appear with the Electro Bolt or Winter Blast plasmids (or a nearby bot shutdown panel) so you can hack them and make them work for you.
  • 7 of 10: If you want bots and there's no unhacked security camera nearby, you can purposely stop the needle in a red zone while hacking some other device in order to start up a security alarm and summon bots.
  • 8 of 10: Turrets are also very useful things to hack, especially in areas with many enemies.
  • 9 of 10: You'll need to either disable turrets with Electro Bolt or Winter Blast before approaching and hacking them, or shoot them with a hack dart and then duck into cover so they can't shoot you while you're doing the hacking minigame.
  • 10 of 10: You should get the Handyman tonic as soon as possible so you'll be able to repair friendly security bots and turrets when they get damaged. It costs a good chunk of EVE to do each repair, so it isn't worth repairing all of them all of the time, but there will be times when it'll come in very handy (especially with turrets in heavily trafficked areas).
