The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon Hints

How can I play as a werewolf?

  • 1 of 8: The werewolves are directly related to the Main Quest series, and to the very title of this whole expansion pack. The main way to become a werewolf is to follow the main quests along until the option becomes available.
  • 2 of 8: If you're trying to decide whether or not to become a werewolf when you've got the chance, there are several things you should be aware of.
  • 3 of 8: Once you're a werewolf, all of the restrictions listed in the manual will apply. While in wolf form, you can't access any of your items or magic, you can't pick up or use items at all, you can only attack with your claws, etc.
  • 4 of 8: If you're playing Bloodmoon with a fairly high-level character with high stats and skills and lots of great artifact gear, you'll be far *less* powerful as a werewolf. Remember, your wolfish self can't wear artifact armor, use healing potions or spells, or any of that other good stuff you've learned to rely on.
  • 5 of 8: The way your transformation works is, you turn into a werewolf at 9 pm and then back into whatever race you were before at 6 am. This will happen every single day for the rest of your life, unless you're just using Hircine's Ring, or decide to get the cure.
  • 6 of 8: Also, you'll feel the need to feed each night, starting the moment you transform at 9 pm. If you don't feed soon (meaning kill an innocent NPC), you'll lose some health and some of your wolfly abilities (like regenerating health) temporarily. You could survive the night without feeding and then restore your health with potions and so forth once you revert back in the morning, but you'll be in no shape to do much while in wolf form. (NOTE: "Innocent NPC" means basically *any* NPC, even ones like the Fryse Hags and Berserkers who always attack you on sight. Also, generic guards are good targets, since they're never essential to quests, and usually respawn.)
  • 7 of 8: And don't forget the whole "everyone hates werewolves" thing. If someone sees you change form, everyone will know you're a werewolf and persecute you in any form forevermore (unless you bring down the console with ~ and type: set pcknownwerewolf to 0). Also, if you're spotted while in wolf form, you will be chased relentlessly. Unless you kill those who've seen you, they'll follow you all over the area you're in (even if it's a big outdoor area). The Skaal are especially adamant about chasing down werewolves.
  • 8 of 8: All in all, I think that playing as a werewolf is not worth it except as an interesting new thing to try once you've finished everything else.
