How do I solve the puzzle to the right of the door?
1 of 21: Study the various skulls to see what differences there are between them.
2 of 21: Notice that most of them are wearing some sort of hat, and many of them have nails in their forehead holes.
3 of 21: Since the nails are the only things that are interactive, it's clear that the object of the puzzle is to put the nails into the correct skulls.
4 of 21: Search your documents for anything that has to do with people wearing hats and getting nails driven into their skulls.
5 of 21: Check out the pictures on the three "Punishment" documents.
6 of 21: The "The Punishment (Vat)" picture is pretty much identical to the "Punishment (Heid.)" picture, so just look at the "Punishment (V. Berg.)" and "Punishment (Heid.)" pictures.
7 of 21: In each of those two pictures, three prisoners are being nail-headed for refusing to remove their hats in Dracula's presence.
8 of 21: Comparing the two pictures, you'll see that the hats are different in each one.
9 of 21: That makes a total of six different hats on the prisoners, and there's a total of six nails in the puzzle.
10 of 21: So put the nails into the skulls that are wearing the hats from the two documents' pictures.
11 of 21: The "Punishment (Heid.)" document shows guys with turbans, so make sure the three skulls with turbans have nails in them.
12 of 21: The "Punishment (V. Berg.)" document shows three Genovese ambassadors wearing their squashy little hats. You'll probably have to use the magnifying glass to see them clearly.
13 of 21: However, that's not enough. There's a hidden seventh hat, as hinted at on the "Punishment (Heid.)" document by the fact that there's an extra nail on the table.
14 of 21: Since the extra nail is missing on the "Punishment (V. Berg.)" document, check it for a clue to the seventh hat design.
15 of 21: There aren't any other hats in the picture (except on the guard), but notice that there's a flag on the ship.
16 of 21: It has a big + sign on it, so look at all the un-nailed skulls on the wall to see which one is wearing a hat with a + sign on it.
17 of 21: The middle left skull on the right part of the board is wearing an iron helmet with the + symbol on it.
18 of 21: That must be the one, but what are you going to do for a nail? All six have already been used.
19 of 21: You have an item in inventory that you can use in place of a nail.
20 of 21: It's the syringe.
21 of 21: Use it on the plus-helmeted skull to finish the puzzle and remove the top bar from the nearby door.
