Dragon Age: Origins Hints

The Mages Asunder

  • 1 of 12: Use the mouse hole nearest the Fade pedestal to reach a room with a Font of Strength and a codex-giving bookcase.
  • 2 of 12: Return to the starting room and exit to the curvy corridor, then shapeshift into burning man form.
  • 3 of 12: Cast a fireball at the mages in the left-side room right after they blow open the door.
  • 4 of 12: Use the same attack on the mages in the next two rooms, then check the first of those rooms for a codex-giving bookcase and an Essence of Magic that you can only access in spirit form.
  • 5 of 12: Open the door to the large southern room, then flame-blast the servants who charge you. Remember that you're immune to your own fireballs, so you can use them at close range. After they're down, search the room for more servants.
  • 6 of 12: Past that room, walk through the flame barrier (you're immune to it in burning man form), then switch to spirit form so you can use Crushing Prison and Winter's Grasp on the lesser demons that spawn at the other end of the room.
  • 7 of 12: After the first two are down, wait for the next two to appear. If they don't right away, move over to the SW side of the room. Crushing Prison probably isn't usable again yet, so use Winter Blast and regular attacks on them.
  • 8 of 12: Switch back to burning man form so you can open the door that's blocked by a flame barrier, then quickly toss a fireball into the room beyond. If you don't finish those mages off fast, they'll run all over the place and hit you with powerful lightning spells.
  • 9 of 12: Finish off any remaining mages at the other end of the room, then open the door to the next room. Move into it until the mages turn hostile, then quickly fireball them and retreat back through the doorway to draw them to you.
  • 10 of 12: After they're all down, read the codex-giving book and bookcase that are in their room next to the stairs, then go through the door at the top of the stairs to find a cursed dreamer under attack by chantry priests and golems.
  • 11 of 12: After finishing the combat, you'll get the golem form added to your shapeshifting repertoire.
  • 12 of 12: Before you move on to the Templar's Nightmare, take the time to use your new golem form to access new rooms in the two previous areas.
