Dragon Age: Origins Hints
Main Forest Area Tips
of 14: Harvest the elfroot plant just east of the river crossing, then wait as the pack of rabid werewolves to the south charge you one or two at a time.
of 14: After all the rabid werewolves and the more powerful ranked werewolf are dead, check their corpses for werewolf pelts, which will come in handy later (and can be sold to merchants).
of 14: Look for an elfroot next to a nearby tree, then head south to find a corpse with a magic belt on it, followed by a wounded elf named Deygan. Talk to him to get the "Wounded in the Forest" quest.
of 14: Finish it, then return to the river crossing and go east to find a small bridge that crosses the second river.
of 14: Just past the bridge are some darkspawn, including an ogre, on the higher ground to the south who will see you and attack.
of 14: After the ogre is down, explore its higher-ground area to find a few last darkspawn, plus some rubble to loot for a couple of gift items.
of 14: Look to the north of the ogre's area to find a large fallen tree that you can loot for ironbark. Return to the Dalish camp and finish the "Rare Ironbark" quest, then come back and explore the path that leads north past the fallen tree.
of 14: The first thing you'll encounter is a powerful hostile tree called a wild sylvan. They're best fought with ranged attacks, so try to keep your distance. (Or have a tough fighter keep the tree busy while everyone else hits it with ranged attacks.)
of 14: Past the sylvan is a deathroot plant and the northern entrance to the East Brecilian Forest area. Harvest the plant, then go back south to where you can take the path that leads east.
of 14: Just past an elfroot plant, you'll come to a path split. Go east to find a few werewolves to fight, followed by an elfroot plant and the southern exit to the East Brecilian Forest.
of 14: Go back to the path split and head south cautiously, ready to fight several of those freaky "wild sylvan" tree things. Slowly approach each one to "activate" it individually, then retreat and use ranged attacks to bring it down.
of 14: After you clear out the Grand Oak's clearing, check along its south side for an elfroot plant. You can talk to the Grand Oak if you want to, but I don't advise doing so because it's part of an upcoming quest task you haven't started on yet.
of 14: Cross the bridge that's west of the Grand Oak and approach the weird camp. Don't examine any of the interactive items in it, though. Just walk away to get a greater shade to attack. (If you'd examined the camp items, some of your characters would be unconscious at the start of combat.)
of 14: After you kill the shade, you can loot it, a chest, and three piles of bones.
