Dragon Age: Origins Hints
NE Path Tips
of 8: Soon after you pass an elfroot plant, you'll come to a camp where a crazy magical hermit hangs out.
of 8: Talk to the hermit about questions until you can ask if he has anything to trade.
of 8: You can trade him certain items to get an acorn (useful for a quest task later on), a helmet, or a book.
of 8: The hermit's book is only good for a codex entry and a few silver when sold to a merchant, so you'll probably want to skip that one.
of 8: The best thing to do for now is trade the Tale of Iloren book or Danyla's scarf for the helmet. It's a powerful magic helmet that gives its wearer +25% spirit resistance. (Be sure to never sell it, since it'll be very useful in the big archdemon battle at the end of the game. Also note that you may be able to trade for an identical helm if you come back later on.)
of 8: Loot the locked chest and elfroot plant in the camp area, but leave the tree stump alone for now.
of 8: The path that leads north from the hermit's camp goes to the same area as the hub's northern path, so leave the same way you came in.
of 8: Now that you've talked to the hermit, some bears have decided to set up an ambush for you in the western section of the West Brecilian Forest area. Go there now and kill off the bears to make sure they don't surprise you later on. There are several of them scattered all over the western section, so make sure you get them all.
