Do a couple of optional combats if you want, then head down to the Deep Roads exit near the SW corner of the Commons area.

2 of 4: On the way, you'll meet a new dwarf companion named Oghren, and will have the chance to drop someone else and add him in (which is a very good idea).

On the Deep Roads map, choose to travel to the new Caridin's Cross area.

Go through Caridin's Cross to reach the Ortan Thaig area, then go through it until you get the "Follow Branka's trail through the Dead Trenches" objective.
