Dragon Age II Hints
Hightown
of 12: Go east to the Merchants Guild area and look for Bodahn and Sandal next to the east wall. You'll remember them if you've played Dragon Age: Origins. Bodahn is a merchant, and Sandal is an enchanter. (Note that you don't have to talk to them to do business, but can instead use the interactive gimmicks that are next to them. Most stores in this game are like that.)
of 12: Go west to the market area, then look around to find four stalls with merchants you can do business with. Look through your inventory to see if you have anything you want to sell, and check what they're selling to see if there's anything you want to save up for. (Note that the "Robes by Jean Luc" store sells a backpack fairly cheap.)
of 12: Near the NW corner of the market is a guy named Worthy that you can talk to in order to open up a station you can use to order runes that you have designs for if you also have the resources and the money. You get the Rune of Protection design as a freebie, though note that you won't be able to order any until you find some lyrium.
of 12: Near the rune-ordering station is an exit that takes you to the world map, which you can use to travel to whatever regions are currently available on three different maps: Kirkwall Day (the one you start on), Kirkwall Night, and the Free Marches. Before you travel around on the other two maps, you should finish exploring all the Kirkwall daytime regions.
of 12: Go up the stairs on the east side of the market, then head south to the square. Read the codex-giving pedestal, then go up the western-most set of southern stairs to reach a dim alcove area with a lootable crate and sack in it.
of 12: Go east from the square and then south to reach the Red Lantern District. Loot the barrel that's near the NE corner, then enter the Blooming Rose and check it for loot.
of 12: Go west from the square to the chantry courtyard, then check the chanter's board for a quest to accept if you have the "The Exiled Prince" premium content module.
of 12: Look to the north for a lootable crate, then go up the southern set of west-side stairs and look in the area to the left for a chest. Next, enter the chantry building and search it for lots of XP-giving codex items.
of 12: Go up the stairs at the south end of the chantry courtyard to reach the Hightown Estates, then head to the west side of the area. Go up the stairs on the right to find a lootable crate.
of 12: Go back down those stairs and up the stairs to the south to find another crate, then into the west side area and look in its NW corner for a hard-to-see passage that's not shown on the area map.
of 12: At the end of the secret passage is another crate, but it doesn't have anything particularly special in it. Disappointing for a secret area, huh?
