Dreamfall: The Longest Journey Hints
What should I do if the guard notices me?
1 of 5: One option is just to restore a saved game and be faster the next time around. You do have a few minutes before the guard comes back, so if you took your time exploring earlier, you might be able to get around more quickly the next time, once you know what to do. (The game does an auto-save when you first approached the kitchen from the basement, so you should be able to load that save even if you forgot to save manually.)
2 of 5: You also will get a little bit of a notice as the guard starts to get up and go on his rounds, so you might be able to use this time to hide.
3 of 5: One good place is at the top of the stairs leading up to the third floor. You won't be able to open the door, but he won't come up here, and you can generally beat him there no matter where you're coming from.
4 of 5: If all else fails, you may get another chance to trick him -- assuming you snuck past him in the lobby.
