Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern Hints

What do I do with the series of handprints on the cave wall?

  • 1 of 16: As with other cave paintings, this is more than simply a static work of art.  These are "magical" handprints.
  • 2 of 16: There are several things that can be clicked on.  To leave the close-up of the handprints, click on the three-pointed starburst at the bottom right corner.  Also, each row and column has a starburst associated with it -- either at the bottom or the right side -- which affects the handprints in a direct line with it.  It is also possible to click on one of the handprints in the bottom row to "select" it.
  • 3 of 16: The starbursts along the bottom and the right side cause either one row or one column to rotate one position (clockwise).  Note: when the handprints are upside down, they switch to the other hand -- in other words, a left handprint will become a right handprint, then will revert back to a left handprint when it is rotated again.
  • 4 of 16: If there is a handprint selected in the bottom row, then you should notice that one or more handprints occasionally lights up when the prints are rotated.  Note: After clicking on a handprint to select it, a triangular red shape near the bottom of the handprint will point to the selected handprint.
  • 5 of 16: What we want to do is use these magical handprints to help us scale this wall, by making a continuous path of lighted handprints from the bottom to the top of the wall.
  • 6 of 16: The handprints must form a continual pattern between one of the prints at the bottom and the print at the very top.  The line of prints may go straight up, or turn to the left or right, in addition to being able to go upwards on the diagonal (either left or right).
  • 7 of 16: Start experimenting with the handprints by selecting one from the bottom row.  Rotate it until it lights up.
  • 8 of 16: Next, use the starburst to the right of the second row (from the bottom) and rotate the row until you find one (or more) additional handprints light up.
  • 9 of 16: Now use the starburst to the right of the third row (from the bottom) and rotate the row until you find one (or more) handprints light up.  If you don't find any new handprints lighting up, select a new handprint from the bottom row and start again.
  • 10 of 16: Now you can study all the bright handprints to see if you can find any pattern as to why they would light up.
  • 11 of 16: Note that some of the handprints are right hands, and some are left (based on the position of the thumb).  Also, some are red and some are black.  These differences are important.
  • 12 of 16: The handprints only light up when the fingers are pointing upward.
  • 13 of 16: In the first row, any selected handprint will light up when the fingers are pointing upward, after that, the handprints must create a specific pattern.
  • 14 of 16: A red handprint must be followed by a black handprint, and a black handprint must be followed by a red one.
  • 15 of 16: Also, a left handprint must be followed by a right one, and a right handprint must be followed by a left one (as seen when the fingers are pointing up).
  • 16 of 16: Continue selecting different handprints from the bottom row and rotating prints until you can find a pattern of prints that makes it all the way to the top.
