Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern Hints
How do I solve the puzzle with the rotating squares?
of 11: The goal -- which is fairly obvious -- is to complete the picture that represents the spirit of the cavern. Note: If at any time you click on the red "X" in the bottom corner of the screen, you will leave the puzzle. However, if you do not move away, but then click on the puzzle again to start it up, it will be at the same point as when you left it. If, on the other hand, you click on the red "X" and then turn and move away from that position (to anywhere else in the cave), and return to the puzzle, it will be reset to its starting position. This can be useful, if you get so confused that you don't want to continue, but wish to start over.
of 11: At first, this looks something like a slider puzzle, but it's not. There are two different actions you can take on this puzzle.
of 11: One is related to the individual squares...
of 11: ... and the other is related to the red dots at the corners of the inner squares.
of 11: Clicking on any square causes it to "flip" to a different image.
of 11: Clicking on any red dot will rotate the four squares around it in a clockwise direction.
of 11: Therefore, there are several steps involved in solving this puzzle. The first is to determine which sides of which squares to use in the puzzle. (I.e., only one side of each square will be used -- but not necessarily the side that is showing when you begin the puzzle).
of 11: This puzzle is much easier to solve if the pieces should be flipped *before* they are moved. If the pieces are flipped before they are moved, they will switch to the correct picture; however, if they are flipped after they are moved, they could switch to a different (incorrect) image. To reset the puzzle, exit the puzzle and step away.
of 11: Next, it's time to begin rotating the "quad-squares" around the red dots, so that you can begin "migrating" each one to where it eventually belongs.
of 11: This can be a tedious task, since it is not a simple implementation of a "slider puzzle". Four squares always rotate together around a central red dot. But moving squares to a desired position can also result in mixing up other squares that may already be in place.
of 11: Solving this puzzle will require thinking ahead, and planning out your moves so that you can "see" what will happen several moves ahead.
