Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern Hints
How do I move the sticks that are blocking the shrine?
of 15: You won't be able to solve this puzzle until you have solved other puzzles. You must complete the puzzle with the rotating squares and finish painting the fresco for Klem.
of 15: Once the fresco has been completed, be sure to speak with Klem again. Ask him what he thinks of the little stags. This will "activate" the puzzle of the sticks blocking the shrine.
of 15: The object, of course, is to move the sticks in such a way as to clear a passage into the shrine. The difficulty is that Arok cannot pick up the sticks, and the horizontal sticks must be moved in such a way that they would not fall to the ground as a result of that movement.
of 15: All of the horizontal sticks blocking the opening near the middle will need to be moved aside -- slid either to the left or the right -- out of the way. Note: Only one horizontal stick can remain in the opening near the middle (although it isn't necessary for it to be in the opening to complete the puzzle). This stick does not, however, block the opening -- it can be resting on the top of the sticks on either side of the opening.
of 15: Both the vertical and horizontal sticks can be interacted with, in addition to the four markings on the stone archway over the entrance to the shrine. Try clicking on one of the vertical sticks to "select" it, then click on each of the four marking, in turn, on the stone archway. Watch the selected stick as you do so to see how the four marking affect it. Do the same for one of the horizontal sticks.
of 15: The vertical sticks can be rotated either right or left by selecting them, then using one of the two symbols on the stone archway that resembles a (nearly complete) circle of arrows.
of 15: The vertical sticks will not always turn. If a horizontal stick is resting on a vertical one, then it will not be possible to rotate that stick. (As doing so would make the horizontal stick fall to the ground.)
of 15: On occasion, a vertical stick cannot be turned because another vertical stick is preventing its movement simply by having a small branch jutting out in that direction.
of 15: To slide a horizontal stick (either left or right), first click on it to select it. Then use one of the two arrow symbols over the doorway as "controls" to attempt to move the selected stick left or right.
of 15: To be able to move a horizontal stick, it will be necessary for the stick next to it to be able to support it. A horizontal stick can be supported either by resting at the top of two sticks of the same height; or by resting on a small branch on the nearby vertical stick.
of 15: It is often necessary to rotate a horizontal stick, before it can be moved, until its little branches are pointing away from the vertical sticks of the puzzle. To do this, you can select the stick, then use one of the two more central markings on the center of the stone archway (one of the markings that looks like a partial circle of arrows).
of 15: On occasion, a nearby vertical stick doesn't have a visible branch-like "ledge" in the right spot for the horizontal stick to move onto. Often, this means that the "ledge" is pointing toward either one side or the back of the vertical stick. In this case, the vertical stick will need to be turned so that the ledge points to the front.
of 15: At other times, a nearby vertical stick won't have any ledges whatsoever at the desired height, in which case, it won't be possible to move the stick in that direction because there wouldn't be any way it could be supported by the nearby vertical stick (unless the two adjacent branches are the same height and the horizontal stick could rest across the top of the two branches).
of 15: If a horizontal stick is supporting another horizontal stick, it will not be possible to move it (unless the horizontal stick being supported is first moved away from that position).
of 15: The trick to this puzzle is that most of the sticks that must be moved from the middle area actually begin the puzzle by being unable to move (because of being blocked by other sticks). You will need to figure out how to adjust each of the sticks, in turn, until it is possible to move the sticks from the middle.
