Fable: The Lost Chapters Hints
Rescue the Archaeologist
of 14: That's right. You now get to go after that ungrateful-to-be-found archaeologist again, this time to learn his secret way of entering Bargate Prison.
of 14: After getting the quest card from the guild map table, go to Bowerstone North (which you can now enter) and then to the Bowerstone Jail area.
of 14: A guard will inform you that a bunch of powerful new enemies known as minions have made off with the archaeologist. You've got to pursue!
of 14: Minions are large and powerful monsters, and the swordsman variety are very good blockers. If you don't have a powerful bow and the handy Multi Arrow spell, be sure to get your Physical Shield up and finish off minions with flourish attacks (or use Assassin Rush or Slow Time to get in behind them).
of 14: WARNING: A lot of the bashable barrels you find along the path will be explosive. They're clearly marked with red skull-and-crossbones symbols, but those may be hard to see if it's night (or if one explosive barrel is nestled in among several non-explosive ones). You can shoot explosive barrels when minions are next to them to help you if you're using bow attacks, but try not to blow up any of the nice guards who join you in your rampage.
of 14: NOTE: There's an ebony longbow in a treasure chest near the exit to Windmill Hill. Get it if you're an archer and don't have anything better yet. (Though by now you really should have Skorm's Bow, the very best bow in the game, from the Chapel of Skorm bronze quest if you're a serious archer.)
of 14: Battle your way through Bowerstone Jail and Windmill Hill until you come to the red forcefield that's blocking the exit to Gibbet Woods.
of 14: Go down the path to the right to find a minion mage near the windmill.
of 14: He's the one who's keeping the forcefield active. Kill him and then proceed on to Gibbet Woods. (NOTE: You may want to raid the treasures in and around the windmill before you go.)
of 14: In the woods, a minion mage will summon up a huge rock troll. You've already faced some of these (in the Arena, if nowhere else), so use your usual strategies on it.
of 14: After finishing off all the minions, use Heal Life to fully heal all of the guards who are with you, then head for the Prison Path.
of 14: As soon as you're on the path, a timer will start. You need to quickly rush down the path to the dock where the archaeologist is being held captive and kill all the minions down there before the timer runs out.
of 14: TIPS: Be sure to use Slow Time to help you run around and hack the minions quickly. Also, you can use it to run past the minions on the path before you reach the dock. When attacking a minion, use flourishes as rarely as possible, since you'll then have to waste precious time waiting for it to get back up before you can finish it off (though if several minions are nearby, you could flourish-attack some of them and then hack on others while the first ones get up).
of 14: The quest is over as soon as you reach the archaeologist and clear the docks of hostiles. You can then relax and make your way back through the areas you've been and loot them at your leisure. (Start with the docks area, which has a chest with a silver augmentation in it.)
