How can I find and expose the engineer?

  • 1 of 7: After the president comes out of the visitor center and makes his way down to the speech platform, go over and wait next to the doors he came out of.
  • 2 of 7: Eventually, an engineer will come out through those doors and go down the steps to join the crowd listening to the speech. He's the one you're after.
  • 3 of 7: The easiest way to expose him is to sneakily pickpocket him right after he comes out through the doors and take his redundant failsafe detonator.
  • 4 of 7: That'll get you the "Report your findings to Ranger Grant" objective, so fulfill it by talking to Ranger Grant, who's right nearby.
  • 5 of 7: All you have to do then is wait for the engineer to get violent. After he's killed, wait some more to complete the quest successfully.
  • 6 of 7: NOTE: If you have a dog with you, you can talk to the engineer to get him to turn violent. The results are the same as if you'd pickpocketed him and reported to Ranger Grant.
  • 7 of 7: NOTE: The engineer can be found on the helipad before the vertibird lands. If you can get by the guard who's a bit south of Ranger Grant's position (by passing a Speech 50 check or wearing an NCR Engineering Jumpsuit), you can climb the ladder to the helipad and pickpocket him up there. However, there's no real advantage to that, especially since you can't report him to Ranger Grant until after he goes out the visitor center's lower doors.
