Fallout: New Vegas Hints
Deathclaw Treasure
of 14: There are two dead prospectors with lots of great hi-tech gear on them at secondary location t on the Zone 4 Map. However, there are dozens of deathclaws near them, including mothers and alpha males.
of 14: The best way to get the treasure, especially if it's early in the game and your character is weak, is via stealth. For this, you'll need at least two Stealth Boys, preferably three.
of 14: Once you have them, start your journey to the treasure by going to the Cliffside Prospector Camp (location 26).
of 14: Go more or less straight east from the camp, fighting any fire geckos you encounter, until you come to the top of the cliff. After quicksaving, look around for a likely spot where you can carefully drop your way down to the riverbank without taking any damage.
of 14: Swim across the river to the opposite bank, then turn left and go into Sneak mode. Sneak your way over to a spot near the start of the sloping path that leads up to the deathclaw area, then quicksave again.
of 14: Use your first stealth boy, then crouch-run your way up the path on its right side. When you get near the top, turn right and get onto the rocks that you're next to. Go west a short way along the rocks until you can turn south.
of 14: Your stealth indicator probably went to "[CAUTION]" during that maneuver, but hopefully it'll change back to "[HIDDEN]" soon after you start moving south.
of 14: Go past the large opening in the rocks on your left, then stand up and run along the large rocks on the left. They'll serve as adequate detection protection. Keep going until you come to a place where you can turn left (E/SE).
of 14: Run that way to have rocks on your left (blocking the deathclaws' view of you) until you reach the end of the rocks, then enter Sneak mode. Quicksave, then crouch-run around the corner and NE to where you can get up onto some more rocks. If you're detected by a deathclaw on the way, quickrestore and try again, this time looking for the nearby deathclaw that saw you and steering wide of it.
of 14: Once you're on the rocks, crouch-run down to the approximate center of them, then use your second stealth boy and quicksave. The two dead prospectors should be easy for you to spot down on the ground next to the rock cluster you're on. However, there will probably be a bunch of deathclaws pacing around very close to them.
of 14: What you need to do is sneak-walk down to where you can loot the prospectors and grab their dropped weapons, then sneak-walk your way back up to the center of the rocks. This is the really hard part, and you may have to try many times before you make it. If you brought a third stealth boy, you may need to use it if you have to wait too long for deathclaws to move away from the loot.
of 14: Quicksave once you make it back to the center of the rocks, then start crouch-running back the way you came. (You can optionally go straight SE/S from the rocks to find three valuable deathclaw eggs near some bones.)
of 14: Once you're back on the other side of the protective rocks that shielded your approach, you're probably safe to stand up and run. If there are deathclaws back there now, you'll have to get up onto those rocks and stay crouched while moving across them in order to avoid detection.
of 14: Go to the nearest point of the cliff and carefully drop your way down it after quicksaving. That'll get you out of deathclaw territory safely, and you'll be able to fast-travel away.
