Fallout: New Vegas Hints

How can I get a home of my own in this game?

  • 1 of 7: You could always look for unclaimed houses in towns like Goodsprings and use the beds and storage containers in them, but they wouldn't truly be yours. (The main difference being that sleeping on their beds won't get you the Well Rested XP bonus.)
  • 2 of 7: While on your way to New Vegas, talk to Jeannie May Crawford in Novac (location 15 on the Zone 4 Map) about renting a room, then pay 100 caps to make the southern-most upper-floor motel room into a home. Besides the usual Well-Rested-giving bed, it has a total of ten containers you can store items in.
  • 3 of 7: When you reach Freeside, you can get a scuzzy little room in the Atomic Wrangler building in Freeside's second section by doing the "Debt Collector" Freeside faction quest.
  • 4 of 7: Since you have to gain entry to the New Vegas Strip for that quest, you might prefer to skip it and finish the first set of Main Quests so you can use the Presidential Suites in both the Lucky 38 Casino and Tops Casino. Those are both very nice and spacious, and the one in the Lucky 38 can even be upgraded by using its terminal, which also acts as a merchant store that you can sell things to.
  • 5 of 7: NOTE: You can get the key to the room at the east end of the Tops Casino's 13th floor by winning a total of 7500 chips at gambling in the Tops. It's a fairly nice room, but the Presidential Suite is better (and a bit easier to get to from the casino entrance).
  • 6 of 7: If you ever make it to Jacobstown (location 1 on the Zone 1 Map), its NE bungalow has a bed in it that'll give you the Well Rested bonus. It also has six containers you can store items in.
  • 7 of 7: You can also gain access to four safehouses that belong to factions like the NCR and Brotherhood of Steel by doing Faction Quests for them. The safehouses come fully furnished, some even with their own workbenches and reloading benches. (Note that only the Brotherhood safehouse has both.)
