Fallout: New Vegas Hints

Editing Game Settings

  • Many of the game settings can be viewed with the "getgs" command and changed with the "setgs" command. For instance, to learn what the current max armor rating is, type: getgs fmaxarmorrating. To change it to 100, type: setgs fmaxarmorrating 100.

In the list below, the numbers in parenthesis are the default values for the game settings. Note that all settings will revert to their default values every time you run the game.

    * factionpointsrestorerate - how fast your action points restore after you use V.A.T.S. (0.06)
    * factorswimbreathbase - how many seconds you can be underwater without taking drown damage (10)
    * fjumpheightmin - how high you can jump (64)
    * fmaxarmorrating - max possible DR (85) (note that there is no max DT)
    * fmovebasespeed - sets the base movement speed for you and all NPCs (77) (only takes effect after you restore a save)
    * fmoverunmult - affects how fast you and NPCs run (4) (only takes effect after you restore a save)
    * fvatscriticalchancebonus - the added percentage chance of making a critical hit on each attack when using V.A.T.S. (5)
    * fvatsstrangerodds - chance of the Mysterious Stranger showing up if you have that perk (0.1)
    * ihackingmaxwords - the maximum number of password possibilities that can appear in a hacking minigame (20)
    * ihourstorespawncell - how many game hours it takes for an area to respawn everything that can respawn (72)
    * imaxcharacterlevel - max level you can achieve (30)

All game settings are listed in the New Vegas version of the Garden of Eden Creation Kit (G.E.C.K.) program under Gameplay/Settings. You can look there if you want to search through the list for other interesting settings, or if you want to change some settings so the game will always use your values for them.
