Energy Weapons
1 of 2: Energy weapons -- which generally appear fairly late in the game -- include laser, plasma, and pulse guns. (You might find some laser guns in the course of solving quests in New Reno, but energy weapons won't otherwise appear until San Francisco or Navarro.)
I personally liked this skill. Toward the end of the game, you'll probably need something better than small guns to attack your opponents. And I wasn't very fond of the Big Guns skill. Although most energy weapons don't usually have burst modes, each shot does do a high amount of damage. This means that you're likely to get some damage through even the strongest armor, which is more important than getting lots of shots but doing no damage with any of them.
2 of 2: Keep in mind, if you do use this skill, that most armor has the highest resistances against laser weapons. This makes plasma guns and, even better, pulse guns more useful.
