Fallout 2 Hints
How can I fight my way onto the base?
of 10: If you do want to (or have no choice but to) fight your way on, the trick isn't so much how to fight, as how to get onto the base without opening yourself up to significant damage.
of 10: Attacking at the front gate of the base is your worst option by far. There are several plasma turrets, in addition to the guards, that will attack you from the start. And since the gate opening is, relatively speaking, fairly large, many more guards can reach you pretty quickly.
of 10: There are also two ways to sneak onto the base.
of 10: Chris (the gas station attendant) might tell you about one.
of 10: The room on the west of the gas station contains a trap door down to the underground part of the base.
of 10: You might also be able to make your way underground via a slightly different direction.
of 10: Go down the air vent to the west of the gas station. You will find a door that requires a blue keycard at the end of the first hallway underground.
of 10: The blue keycard is available from a locker in the Gecko reactor. You might also try picking this lock. But be warned that it might be better to approach the base from the ladder in the gas station, to avoid accidentally freeing the deathclaw behind the blue keycard door.
of 10: In either case, once you've cleared out the underground section of the base, you can use it as a "base" for your own assault on the ground-level section.
of 10: The guards won't follow you if you go up and then back down in the elevators. So use the elevators and the underground section for healing if you need it. That way, you can clear the ground level out in sections -- which should make the fighting a lot easier.
