Is there any way to skip fighting altogether?
1 of 3: If you have the ghoul mask that's a possible reward for the "Tenpenny Tower" misc. quest in the main Fallout 3 game, you can put it on before entering the Presidential Metro area to make all of the ghouls friendly to you.
2 of 3: You can stand aside and watch as they fight the robots, then attack the ones that survive the battle.
3 of 3: Or you can just move on without doing any combat at all.
